It's no longer a secret; online dating websites offer the easiest and quickest way for single guys to meet women. I mean, it's estimated that over 8 million women each month visit online dating sites looking for men. That's an average of 267,000 women every day.

But with thousands of men in your area posting personal ads on dating sites, how can you make your ad stand out from the crowd so that you're guaranteed dozens of dates? Easy: You take advantage of the same method that advertisement writers use in magazine and newspaper ads to sell their products or services.

I'm not kidding. Think about it for a second: A personal ad is exactly that -- an advertisement about yourself. So it makes sense to employ the same methods used by successful advertisers.

One particular method that's extremely effective when writing a personal ad is called the 3-U method:

Uniqueness;
Ultra-specificity;
Urgency.

To show you how powerful a personal ad can be when using the 3-U's, I posted an ad about myself on the Yahoo! Personals on September 7, 2002. Eight days later, I had 23 women asking me out. By the end of the month, more than 50 women had contacted me for dates.

In a moment, I'll give you specific examples of the 3-U's as I walk you through each element of an effective personal ad:

The headline;
The personal profile;
The close.

But before I do that, here's a sobering statistic for you to chew on: For every 10 men who post a personal ad on a dating site, only 3 get a response. In essence, only 30% of men will get a response, while the other 70% stay home alone snapping their radish.

Why is the response rate so low? Because most personal ads posted by men are boring, redundant, and worse yet, plagued with grammatical errors.

But don't take my word for it. Visit online dating sites and rummage through the men's ads yourself. Go through about 20 personal ads and count how many times you read, "I like to go hiking... I like to try new things... I'm looking for someone special..."
